Almost always in the fight against poverty you will find disproportionately high levels of poor health amongst those who cannot afford the basics: immunizations, general check-ups, prompt treatment of illnesses or accidents. Coupled with this is a general lack of education on how to control disease, knowledge of basic hygiene practices, AIDS and STDs. In poorer areas, the problem can either be (a) people are too poor to receive treatment and therefore suffer silently; or (b) medical support is not available as they are simply too remote.
Captivating has taken a position that all children and families within reach of our programs will receive basic levels of medical care. Our plans are to do this through a combination of permanent clinics, or through the establishment of mobile medical vans to service poor or remote locations. Medical staff involved with the program focus on basic health services which also includes providing education and materials on sickness prevention and how to reduce health risks. Our funding approach to this is no different to our other initiatives - provide seed funding to get a program established, then assist various locations develop income producing solutions to sustain the medical service ongoing.
